Improve room climate with dehumidifiers

Healthy indoor climate - a dehumidifier can improve the indoor climate

Not only does the optimal room temperature contribute to a healthy climate in the room, but the right humidity also plays an important role in this context. If the air is too dry or too humid, it can have negative effects on the human immune system. Furthermore, damp, cold air creates ideal conditions for mold formation, which also raises health concerns. Therefore, it makes sense to monitor the humidity in the apartment and, if necessary, lower or increase it.

The optimal living climate

Especially during the colder days in winter, but also already in autumn, many homeowners begin to stop ventilating regularly. Often, there is a fear that the cold temperatures during ventilation will also significantly reduce the apartment temperature, making heating seem "in vain." However, this brings the disadvantage that the warm heating air binds moisture, leading to an uncomfortable indoor climate. Those who have a hygrometer can measure the exact humidity in their home and observe how heating leads to significant changes. The optimal indoor climate always depends on the use of the room, but experts recommend that a humidity level between 40 and 60 percent is chosen. If the values are below this, the dry air irritates the respiratory tract and eyes. Conversely, values above 60 percent can lead to mold formation. However, problems with excessive humidity can arise not only during the cold months, as everyday activities also influence the moisture in the apartment. This includes, for example:

• Showering or bathing
• Cook
• The watering of many houseplants
• Sleep

Even if this initially doesn't sound intuitive, even sleeping can increase humidity, as a person exhales about 100 grams of water per hour while sleeping, which gets trapped in the air and gradually raises humidity levels. Since the bedroom is usually a small, rather cool room, there are often problems with mold growth here, which typically starts in particularly cool corners or behind furniture. This is especially true when the bedroom door remains closed at night.

The sensible help: Use of a dehumidifier

A dehumidifier ensures a controlled and balanced indoor climate. It draws in the humid air and initially cools it below the dew point. Then, with the help of a so-called heat recovery unit, the air is reheated while the condensate remains in a collection container. The air itself is freed from moisture, which increases the quality of the indoor climate. When choosing a dehumidifier, it is always important to ensure that the dehumidification capacity is appropriately selected for your own apartment. A device that is too small, for example, will not be able to comprehensively remove moisture from a room, while devices that are too large can be acoustically problematic.
