Dehumidifier without electricity

In addition to the traditional dehumidifiers with compressor and fan, there is also the option to keep the air dry with granules for smaller areas.

In fact, depending on the application and location, you can also use dehumidifying granules that work without electricity. For example, when you want to dehumidify a caravan, keep a car or a classic car dry. But also when you want to prevent moisture from accumulating in a closet and making clothes smell musty. In a granule-based dehumidifier, the granules absorb moisture from the room air and bind it in a container box. Neither the extracted moisture nor unpleasant odors that accumulate in the dehumidifier can escape and leave the container. This option is particularly recommended in very small rooms where ventilation is not possible, such as the interior of a car, classic car, caravan, as well as in closets and broom cupboards. Also in places where a connection to the power grid is simply not possible. Battery-operated dehumidifiers are more flexible and mobile and are resistant to splashes. However, in larger or extremely damp rooms, a granule-based dehumidifier can no longer provide sufficient performance. Here, the goal can only be achieved with a traditional electric dehumidifier.

Types of Dehumidifying Granules

Renewable Granules
A moisture-absorbing silica gel*-granulate is encased in a housing and placed in the area to be dried (e.g., in a cabinet or in a car) without power. It absorbs moisture until it is saturated, usually indicated by a color indicator showing when the absorption capacity is exhausted. Subsequently, the dehumidifier is plugged into a power outlet that generates heat overnight. This heat drives the moisture out of the granulate and fully regenerates it for the next use. The advantage of this technology is that there is no material wear and therefore no need for refilling. The disadvantage is that a power outlet must be available for regeneration.
*Silica gel is one of the most absorbent substances and is also used in the packaging industry by being included in small paper bags in package shipments to prevent the contents from becoming damp.

Single-use calcium chloride granules
Calcium chloride is also a very absorbent substance that absorbs moisture in bags or placed loosely and collects it in a container depending on the model. The granules must be replaced regularly. This form is commonly found in motorhomes or campers.

High-performance dehumidifying granulate "Dryfix"
This granulate is extremely absorbent. It is suitable for soaking up and enclosing larger amounts of water. For example, in flat roof renovation, in sanitary applications, in case of water in the car (when the open window was forgotten), etc.

"We do not carry dehumidifying granules in our range. You can quickly and cheaply find them online at camping accessory shops."
