HEPA Filter H13 suitable for air purifier Aerial AMH100. The replacement is easy and occurs when the already installed filter can no longer fulfill its function. Explanation of the different HEPA filters:HEPA-13, HEPA-14The HEPA stands for: High Efficiency Particulate Air – in German approximately: air filter with high effectiveness against particles.
This is how a HEPA filter worksThe construction of a HEPA filter is based on a dense mesh of fibers that filters out the smallest particles. The fibers in the filter mesh are not arranged regularly, as in a sieve, but are irregularly positioned. This results in varying distances between the individual fibers, sometimes large and sometimes small. HEPA filters remove particles from the air that are significantly smaller than the gaps between the fibers. The filtration occurs as the air flows past the fiber mesh: the small particles simply adhere to the fibers.
The filter standardFilters are standardized and classified into filter classes 1-17. The higher the number, the greater the filter capacity for the smallest particles. The filter classes H13 and H14 are referred to as HEPA filters. The filter classes U15 to U17 are high-performance particulate filters and are used for air filtration in clean rooms. HEPA filters are defined as filters that remove at least 99.9 percent of all dust particles larger than 0.1–0.3 micrometers from the air. This includes respirable dust, mite eggs and droppings, pollen, smoke particles, asbestos, bacteria, various toxic dusts, and aerosols. By the way, normal household dust is so large that it is already captured by the pre-filter of an air purifier. To have a better comparison, we will show you the filter metrics for particles with a size between 0.1 to 0.3 micrometers below: Filter class Separation degree Transmission degreeH13 99,95% 0,05%H14 99,995% 0,005% Regarding cleaning effectiveness against the Corona virus:Coronaviruses have a diameter of about 60 - 160 nm (60 nm = 0.00006 mm).The HEPA filter in this device cleans particles up to 0.0003 mm in size. The virus is therefore smaller than the filter's purity rate. But: Viruses do not fly individually in the air, but are always enclosed in larger droplets (so-called aerosols). In human breath, the smallest droplets have a size of about 1 µm = 0.001 mm (when coughing: 10 µm = 0.01 mm). The HEPA filter captures the aerosols and also cleans the air of COVID-19 viruses. Of course, there is no 100% protection, as an air purifier does not clean the entire room volume at once and because surfaces can also be contaminated by touch. However, for risk reduction, e.g., in waiting rooms, classrooms, offices, or even in private settings, the device is very effective and recommended.
